About
Greetings. I am a graphic designer from Wellington with five years of broad experience. I have been working primarily in the digital space, and have had to take on a variety of roles.
A Whanganui School of Design alumni, I love being a part of creating things that people can use, and use well. Thriving on challenges, I am looking for an opportunity to work in an innovative environment.
Skillset
Web design
The bread and butter of my work from the last few years has been taking offline brands and moving them into the online space. Working with a lot of government agencies, there has been an onus on creating designs that are as usable and accessible as possible, while still retaining a beautiful aesthetic that stays true to the original intention of the brand. Working closely with both front end and back end developers to make the visuals possible has given me a strong understanding of their procedures, as well as e-Government Standards.
Print design
Creating a consistency across mediums is important to any successful brand. A solid understanding of print design techniques and theory aids web design. I have produced a range of print jobs both small and large; posters, booklets, business cards, flyers and packaging.
Application design
Interactive design was the focus of my degree, and designing impressive systems that people can use is a passion of mine. I have also worked across various applications to create hybrid Mac/PC interactive CD-ROMs and museum exhibitions.
Flash development
After an initial foray into Director, Flash became my program of choice for more complex interactive builds. I have designed and built Flash websites that incorporate video, XML functionality, subtitling and enjoy the ever-changing challenges of Flash development.
Information architecture
Organisation and structure has always been a strength of my design, coming very much form the theory of “less is more”. Information Architecture was a natural next step, and I have created successful prototypes for a number of websites and other interactive applications.
Video
I have created motion graphics for several large award ceremonies and building presentations that have received unanimous positive feedback. This also transfers through to the smaller screen, where I have experience creating DVDs from the initial planning stages, the interactive menu design, creating the video transitions and finally building the DVD. I am also experienced in video compression and optimisation techniques.
Digital content entry
Being experienced with content management systems not only gives me a deeper understanding of the web design process, but also lets me share in the frustration that clients sometimes feel when trying to deal with them. Consistent, high quality content is the most important part of any website, and can make or break a design.
Corporate template creation
Being able to realise brandwork across corporate stationery is important to a lot of clients. I have produced plenty of Word templates and Powerpoint presentations in my time, which is often the finishing touch on a job well done. I am also experienced in the creation of interactive PDFs.
